Charis Rey and her Annual 28-Mile Hike for Make-A-Wish Foundation
For the fourth consecutive year, Charis Rey embarked on a challenging 28-mile hike along the Pacific Crest Trail in Big Bear, California, all in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This year’s trek proved to be particularly demanding, with rugged terrain, steep ascents from 6000 to over 8000 feet elevation, and variable weather conditions.
Despite facing gusty winds up to 19 mph and temperatures ranging from 55 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit, Charis & Stacey persevered through the grueling journey that took over nine hours to complete. With her unwavering determination and resilience, she conquered every obstacle along the way.
Accompanied by her new hiking partner Stacey McAllister this year, Charis’s husband Steve Smythe played a vital role as her support team at key checkpoints. He provided crucial assistance with her gear, food for energy boosts, and ensured her well-being throughout the arduous hike.
Together with the generous contributions of family and friends, Charis raised over $3000 for Make-A-Wish Foundation’s San Diego branch. Every step she took was dedicated to bringing hope and joy to children battling critical illnesses.
While Stacey nearly considered giving up three times during the challenging hike, she drew strength from knowing that their efforts were making a difference in the lives of those in need. The thought of these brave children fighting their battles kept them motivated despite fatigue and soreness.
As Charis reflects on this year’s journey—exhausted yet fulfilled—she looks ahead with optimism towards next year’s hike. Her commitment to supporting Make-A-Wish Foundation remains unwavering as she continues to make dreams come true for courageous young warriors.
